To this end, the Museum has put together a permanent exhibition that provides visitors with a fundamental view of the work of this couturier, considered one of the most prominent and influential designers of the twentieth century. His mastery of the craft earned him the great respect of his colleagues and he reigned supreme in international couture until his retirement in 1968. The museum has about 1,200 pieces, among them several outfits that belonged to the Princess of Monaco. . Enjoy a tour of Delvaux's design studio, atelier and private museum in Brussels. Founded in 1829, a year before Belgium was declared an independent nation, @delvaux was the first fine leather luxury goods house in the world. With the rise of train travel, trunk maker Charles Delvaux saw an opportunity: Women needed smaller carrying bags to keep with them while in transit — and thus the original handbag was born. The house was the very first to file patents for handbags, with the earliest recorded in 1908. La Maison has remained at the forefront of luxury leather goods for nearly two centuries because of its savoir-faire, uncompromising craftsmanship and the outstanding quality of its creations. Official purveyor to the Belgian royal court since 1883, the house — or la maison — was also the first brand of its kind to introduce seasonal collections (now customary in the world of haute couture) under the leadership of Franz Schwennicke, who took the helm in 1933. The Delvaux headquarters are set in a former maintenance and repair depot for military vehicles. The group will be shown around the amazing compound; including a tour of the leather library, with pieces up to 40 years old, and the chance to see some of the finest leather making – including the process of shaving and the workmanship of “exotic skins specialists”. Rather than form a factory-style assembly line, Delvaux's craftspeople construct each bag from start to finish. Last year Sylvia presented in the first two editions of Eco Fashion Week Australia her collections called "Synergy of the Arts" and "Barcelona T'Estimo" respectively, the first one created in collaboration with different local artists. She combined couture with hand painting, traditional weaving, ceramics, crystal making and serigraphy. This provided the garments a unique art component. Students first get an introduction to the industry at The National Wool Museum, which tells the Australian story of wool, fibre and textiles. They will then visit The Australian Wool Innovation and @thewoolmarkcompany for a talk about The Woolmark Prize and the use of wool within the commercial sector. The experience ends with a visit to a wool farm, for a unique perspective on the industry and to learn the entire production process behind wool manufacturing. .
